Cumberland Island is an undeveloped national seashore. There are no stores, streetlights, or transportation. Therefore, appropriate attire and comfortable walking shoes are a necessity. To assist in your trip planning, we offer the following.
Luggage: Pack light! Due to our Island location luggage is handled many times by different staff members. We appreciate you keeping each suitcase/bag to 30 lbs or less and of medium size. This will help with manually maneuvering the luggage through the houses and when necessary up four flights of stairs. We provide robes, irons, beach towels and amenities.
Liquor: State law prohibits the transport of liquor across the State line. Guests are not permitted to bring liquor. Greyfield has a fully stocked bar and wine cellar. We operate an ウHonest Johnイ bar. Please sign for your drinks on the chits provided. An excellent wine list is available at dinner.
Shopping: Greyfield Inn is the only commercial establishment on Cumberland Island. There are no stores except for the Greyfield Inn gift shop, which does stock essentials.
Dietary: If you have any dietary restrictions due to allergies or health concerns, please make them known in advance of your stay. Food ordering is done well in advance and last minute changes are not easy to accommodate.
Directions: Directions to the dock are on the Map Page. Your ride across on the "Lucy R. Ferguson" will take approximately 40 minutes. The boat is partially open, so please dress for the weather. Remember you are leaving from Fernandina Beach, Florida.
Insects: There is no insect control program in place as Cumberland Island is a wildlife sanctuary. Therefore, your cologne of choice may be Skin-So-Soft, Cutters, or Off insect repellent-particularly in the summer.
Dress: Dinner at Greyfield is an event. Informal dress for ladies and jackets for men are required, ties optional. Casual wear during the day is suggested. Hors dケoeuvres are served daily in the living room between 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. during cocktail hour.
No Smoking: Greyfield Inn is wonderful but old. Because of this, smoking is permitted only outside the house or on the back porch.
Baths: Some guest rooms share baths. These baths include a clawfoot tub, sink, and toilet-typical of 1900. In addition to interior showers a shower house located behind the Inn. Appropriate attire for getting to the shower house is the bathrobe provided for your convenience. You may wish to bring a pair of flip-flops.
Horses: You will see many horses on Cumberland Island and some will be grazing right by the Inn. Remember, these are wild horses. They may appear tame but they are not. Observe them from a distance.
Library: Greyfield is the perfect place to catch up on reading. Bring your favorite books and prepare to relax! Greyfield also has an extensive library.
Massage: Massage services are available by advance reservation and are non-cancelable.
